Spreading Citizenship Around the World

by Patricia Brannan (General Counsel and Partner, Washington, D.C.) and Emily Reid (Global Board Member and Partner, London), Co-Chairs of Hogan Lovells’ Citizenship Panel

Good Citizenship is one of Hogan Lovells’ core values, underpinning our business practices around the world. We take seriously our responsibility to be good citizens to all those with whom we engage, including employees, clients, suppliers, and the larger communities in which we live and work.

Hogan Lovells has just released our third annual Citizenship Report, which underscores the time, energy, and concern our people invested in Good Citizenship throughout 2012. We hope this report reflects the value we place on tackling the pressing issues of sustainability, inequality, and human need.

As co-chairs of the Citizenship Panel, we are proud of our colleagues’ extraordinary dedication to the five programs that comprise Citizenship at Hogan Lovells:

  • • Pro Bono
  • • Touch: Matched Global Giving
  • • Commitment to the Environment
  • • Global Diversity and Inclusion
  • • Community Investment

In 2012, we expanded our network of Citizenship champions and ambassadors into nearly all of our offices worldwide as we continue to embed the principles of equity, social justice, environmental sustainability, and diversity into the DNA of Hogan Lovells.

We are particularly pleased with the progress we have made in improving the retention and advancement of women to partnership and management positions across the globe. This strategic priority was highlighted in 2012 by a number of local programs, such as Frankfurt’s Women@HL initiative aimed at supporting women on the partnership track and Hong Kong’s Breaking Barriers, which encourages networking among leading professional women.

As participants of the Global Women’s Executive Summit may attest, providing these forums for thought-provoking and lively discussion among leading women allows us to cultivate relationships, share lessons learned, and contribute to the long-term success of women in business and the law.

At Hogan Lovells, our Citizenship program focuses on delivering impact where it is needed most.
